CSI: Pool Water Edition - Our Team of Water Detectives Will Unveil the Mysteries of Your Pool Water.

When you bring a sample of your pool water to us, we typically test it for a variety of factors that affect the water's quality and safety. Here are some of the most common things that we will test for:

Total Alkalinity: Total alkalinity is a measure of the pool water's ability to resist changes in pH. We will test the total alkalinity levels to ensure that they are within the recommended range to prevent fluctuations in pH that can lead to problems like sanitizer ineffectiveness, scaling, corrosion, and cloudiness.

pH: pH is a measure of the water's acidity or base. We will test the pH levels once the Total Alkalinity level is ideal, and adjust if needed to ensure that they are within the recommended range to prevent skin and eye irritation, and to help maintain the effectiveness of other chemicals in the pool.

Calcium Hardness: Calcium hardness is a measure of the amount of dissolved calcium in the pool water. We will test the calcium hardness levels to ensure that they are within the recommended range to prevent problems like bather discomfort, scaling and cloudy water.

Chlorine/Salt or Bromine levels: These are the most common sanitizers used in swimming pools. We will test the levels of these chemicals to ensure that they are within the recommended range to effectively kill bacteria and other microorganisms in the water.

Cyanuric Acid: Cyanuric acid is a stabilizer or conditioner that is often added to pool water to help protect chlorine from being broken down by sunlight. We will test the cyanuric acid levels to ensure that they are within the recommended range to prevent the loss of chlorine prematurely in the pool.

By testing for these factors, We can provide you with a detailed analysis of your pool water's quality and recommend the appropriate products and treatments to keep your pool safe and clean.

The information shared above is based on my extensive experience of over 40 years in the pool business, and I look forward to seeing you soon for a water test and the start of the summer season. Thank you for considering this information, and I wish you a happy and refreshing pool season!
